GRANITE The natural stone your have purchased for your home or office is an investment that will give you many years of beautiful service. Stone is a natural product and simple care and maintenance will keep it looking beautiful. Here are some recommendations for routine care and cleaning: Clean stone surfaces with a few drops of neutral cleaner, stone soap or a mild liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks. Do not use products that contain high amounts of lemon, vinegar or other acids on the granite the high acid content may etch the surface. Rinse the surface thoroughly after washing with the soap solution and dry with a soft cloth. Change the rinse water frequently. Do not use scouring powders or creams; these products contain abrasives that may scratch the surface. Bath and Other Wet Areas In the bath or other wet areas, soap scum can be minimized by using a squeegee after each use. To remove soap scum, use a non-acidic soap scum remover. Frequent or over-use of an ammonia solution may eventually dull the surface of the stone. Do's Do dust surfaces frequently Do clean surfaces with mild detergent or stone soap >GET A QUOTE Do thoroughly rinse and dry the surface after washing Do blot up spills immediately Don'ts Don't use cleaners that contain acid such as bathroom cleaners, grout cleaners or tub & tile cleaners. Don't use abrasive cleaners such as dry cleansers or soft cleansers. Don't mix bleach and ammonia; this combination creates a toxic and lethal gas. SWANSTONE/CORIAN/MYSTERA On installation, a Solid Surface work top will have an overall satin sheen finish. However as you use it, it acquires a smoother, more silken finish and appearance, rather like the soft lustre or sheen fine silverware develops. Even the cleaning properties appear to improve with use. So that this lustre does not develop unevenly, use a gentle abrasive powder bleach (e.g. Bar Keepers Friend) or a mild cream abrasive cleaner once or twice a month over the first few months. Clean the entire top with a wet sponge or cloth, using a circular motion. Rinse/wipe with a damp cloth and dry with paper towel or soft cloth. You'll be pleased to see how it responds to your touch... For everyday cleaning, try the easy way first! Although liquids cannot penetrate Acrylics, it is best to wipe up spills as they occur. Just use an ammonia- based hard surface cleaner; a good solid-surface cleaner; or ordinary detergent. Clean the sink or top as usual, with a damp cloth and detergent, wiping it well and rising it to get rid of any oils and fats - or spray with a hard-surface cleaner and leave a few minutes before rinsing/wiping clean with a damp cloth and finishing with a dry cloth. If any stains need more attention sprinkle a gentle abrasive powder bleach on the damp surface and leave for a few minutes before using a sponge or soft cloth to rub with a circular motion and rinsing/wiping, then drying. Once or twice a week, give your sink a beauty treatment. Remove all fat and oil residues of normal food preparation from the sink, using detergent or hard-surface cleaner. Partially fill the sink with warm (not boiling) water. Add 1-2 teaspoons (5-10 ml) of liquid household bleach, and leave a few hours or overnight. You do not need a strong solution. In the morning, the sink should be beautifully clean, with very little effort. Metal marks from pots & pans (in particular, aluminium and cast iron) show on Acrylic sinks, just as they do on porcelain, ceramic, or acrylic. Using a Scotch Bright pad in circular motions works well to remove these marks. QUARTZ Routine Care Typically Quartz products require very little maintenance. Simply wipe your surface with soap and warm water on a regular basis to maintain its beauty and shine for years to come. Any pH balanced general-purpose household cleaner may be used.(e.g. dish soap, Windex®) Difficult Spills To remove difficult spills, wipe the surface with warm water and soap. If needed, apply a common household cleaner. For stains that harden as they dry, such as food, gum, nail polish, and paint, remove by gently scraping off of surface (using a blade or putty remover), and then clean using warm water and soap. Gray marks lefts by the razor, can be wiped away with soap and water. Most Quatrz's advanced technology makes its surface extremely resistant to damaging chemicals. Difficult spots may be treated with one of the cleaners listed below. Leave the cleaner to sit for up to 10 minutes. Scrub and rinse thoroughly. WOOD Wood is quite porous. Since a butcher block cannot be sealed or varnished, bacteria from meats and foodstuff is absorbed and a great place to flourish. Please follow these steps to properly maintain your butcher block: Wash well with a mild solution of clean dishwashing solution after every use, then rinse and wipe dry. Be certain that it is thoroughly dry BEFORE putting away in storage After you cut meat and poultry on it, wet it down will with a disinfectant cleaner or a 1 part chlorine bleach to 10 part water solution. Allow the solution to work for approximately 10 minutes, rinse well with clean water and allow to air dry. Occasionally, deodorize surface with fresh lemon juice. Allow it to sit on surface for about 15 minutes. Then rinse, and dry. Butcher block requires an 'oiling' from time to time to keep them from getting brittle. When the block is clean and dry, use mineral oil as a coating. Apply it and allow it to sit for about an hour. Wipe away excess, clean with a mild detergent, and allow to air dry. "Butcher block" that's not used for food preparation should be oiled occasionally with any store bought product designed for oil-finished furniture... RICHLITE/PAPERSTONE Routine Cleaning and Upkeep Richlite® surface is a durable, attractive material designed to stay beautiful for the lifetime of your kitchen, bath or office space. A simple wipe up with soap and warm water on a regular basis will maintain its beauty. Richlite's testing laboratory recommends that fabricators finish the surface with a non-oil-based sealant to provide a rich, polished finish that requires minimum care. Removing Stains Generally speaking, Richlite® resists stains quite well. As with most any material, there is a potential for some staining. With stubborn stains, try a non- abrasive household cleaner – Richlite® highly recommends SimpleGreen®* All-Purpose Cleaner because of its effectiveness and earth friendly ingredients. STAINLESS STEEL Stainless steel is easy to clean. Washing with soap or a mild detergent and warm water followed by a clean water rinse is usually quite adequate for domestic and architectural equipment. An enhanced appearance will be achieved if the cleaned surface is finally wiped dry. CONCRETE Certain properties of the material must be taken into account: the concrete mix must have just the right amount of water, it must be cured in an environment that is neither too hot nor too cold, it must be cured slow and evenly, and it must be reinforced. A clear epoxy finish ca be used to make it stain proof, but these tend to make the countertops look cheesy and plastic. Epoxy also scratches easily, and if you put a hot pan straight from the oven on it, the finish will be damaged. Instead, use two or three coats of a penetrating sealer, which makes the concrete more stain resistant, followed by two or three coats of wax, which produces a shiny matt finish and the old world look that kitchen designers rave about. This finish can also be scratched, so a cutting board must always be used, and acidic foods such as lemon juice, mustard and vinegar will etch the surface if not cleaned up promptly. Cooking oil bottles left on the counter next to the stove will invariably leave a ring, so these must be put away. The wax must be reapplied every one to six months depending on how often you use your kitchen and the counter must be resealed about every two years. LAMINATE All laminate materials are very easy to clean Dry the surface with a soft, clean, non-abrasive cotton cloth In most cases, you only need to us a clean, damp, non abrasive cotton cloth Rinse with clean water, using a clean, non-abrasive cotton cloth.Do not flood the laminate, especially near seam, since water can penetrate and cause the substrate to swell. |
